Kali Silat Workshop

The Filipino and Indonesian arts of stick, blade, and empty hand

When: Date and time announced soon

Where: Diamondheart Striking & Grappling

67 Ingraham St, Brooklyn, NY 11237

Muay Thai and BJJ are the heart of what we do at Diamondheart. The Beyond Muay Thai and BJJ Workshop Series is our chance to step outside them and explore the wider world of martial arts, one workshop at a time.

First up: Kali Silat. Kali is the Filipino art of stick and blade, where every weapon pattern maps directly onto empty hands. Silat brings the close-range entries, sweeps, and flowing footwork of Indonesia and the wider Malay archipelago. Together they build coordination, timing, and awareness that sharpen everything else you train.

Led by Coach Tony Chong, whose martial arts journey runs from Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do through Kali, Muay Thai, and BJJ. All levels welcome. No experience needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kali Silat?

Kali is a Filipino martial art built around stick and blade work, where the same angles and footwork carry over directly to empty hands. Silat is a family of Southeast Asian martial arts known for close-range striking, off-balancing, and fluid entries. This workshop blends both into one session focused on coordination, timing, and movement you won't find in a typical Muay Thai or BJJ class.

Do I need any martial arts experience?

No. The workshop is open to complete beginners and experienced martial artists alike. Every drill starts from zero and scales up, so you'll get something out of it whether this is your first class or your thousandth.

What should I bring?

Just comfortable training clothes and water. All training equipment, including practice sticks, is provided.
